We believe in simplicity in design. Our patented designs allow all Burke bicycles to achieve amazing compactness in folding by using a minimal number of simple hinges. No complicated linkages, no multiple degree-of-freedom joints, no curvy tubes, no one-legged fork, and no custom-made wheel hubs. The design simplicity translates to bikes that are easier to manufacture, stronger, more reliable, lighter, and more compatible with standard components.
We have created different designs to suit different uses. Burke bikes are designed and built with both folding performance and bicycle performance as principal priorities.
For folding, we have distilled our years of experience as designers and users to arrive at three criteria for our designs. We believe these define what makes a really good folder.

Foldability of a bike is determined by the number of steps to fold, and the average time taken to execute the folding. We use a 2-number system to measure foldability. The smaller the numbers, the better. Our bikes have some of the lowest numbers of any folding bike.
It is not just a matter of folding simply to reduce the dimensions, but to make it fit for a purpose. Can it fit into an airline legal suitcase? How small a floor area does it take up on a train or inside a lift?
With the bike folded, how easy is it to move it along on a train station platform, up a bus, or down a flight of stairs? Important consideration includes rollability and "carriability". Carriability is determined by weight of bike, weight distribution, compactness and sturdiness, a good place for hand grip, and any interference with body or clothing.
1-Minute suitcase fit
Foldability
Folded Size
Portability
The Burke 20 is the bike with the biggest wheels that can be packed into an airline legal 28" x 22" x 12" suitcase within a minute, without having to remove wheels or handlebar. The is a commonly available luggage size on the market.
Standing-Room-Only Footprint
Foldability
Folded Size
Portability
For a folded bike, some dimensions matter more than others. The footprint, or floor area occupied by a standing bike, is what counts when taking it on board a crowded bus, train or lift. The Burke 16 has one of the smallest footprint of any folded bike, about the same floor area (2 ft x 1 ft) as that occupied by an average standing adult.
Delta frame design

Portability
With its unique Delta or single triangle frame design, the Burke 8 is about half the length of a conventional bike with a double triangle frame! It is also easily adjustable to fit riders from 4' to more than 6' in height.
Every Burke folding bike is designed for a reason and to be the best in its class.

Your body position on the bike affects your comfort and how efficiently you apply power to the pedals.
Bigger cockpit
The Burke 20 has a longer saddle to handlebar reach than most folding bikes, giving a better fit for taller riders.
Easily adjustable fit
The Burke 16 includes an extra long telescopic seatpost and telescopic handlebar stem, providing full handlebar and saddle height adjustability.
Relaxed and upright
With its under-seat steering and delta frame design, the Burke 8 allows anyone from 4' to over 6' to cycle in a relaxed, upright position.
Many factors determine the stability of a bike in a straight line and how it handles turns. These include front fork geometry, wheel size, wheel base, position of the center of gravity of rider and bike.
Saddle, handlebar grip, pedals, frame stiffness, and brakes all play an important part in ensuring a safe and comfortable ride.
Among their many features, Burke bicycles are equipped with powerful V-brakes, high pressure good-grip tires, and integrated headset with precision bearings.
All components on our bikes are selected for their build quality and performance to facilitate a safe and comfortable ride.
Ever wished you have more gears for tackling a climb, or dashing to an appointment? A wide gear range with closely spaced gear ratios will also allow you to pedal at your most efficient cadence at any speed.
With a 135mm rear dropout spacing and rear derailleur hanger, the Burke 20 can accommodate SRAM, Shimano, Rohloff, Sturmey Archer and other internal gear hubs as well as 11-speed derailleur gears.
With a 135mm rear dropout spacing and rear derailleur hanger, the Burke 16 can accommodate a wide selection of internal gear hubs and derailleur gears.
The Burke 8 has a single rear gear sprocket, with an option for a dual-speed drive crankset.
If you use your bike for commuting, running errands, sight-seeing or touring, you'll want to carry stuff. Racks and luggage mounting systems on a bike should allow load carrying without affecting stability and handling.
A Brompton-compatible front luggage system allows a wide selection of bags and baskets to be mounted on the rigid head tube.
With a quick-release luggage system, a trunk bag can be easily mounted on and released from the rear rack.
Parts wear out over time as a bike gets used and exposed to the weather. How durable a bike is depends on the quality of the components, the frame material, the strength of the welds, the precision tolerances in the pivot hinges, etc.
